The Colli Albani and their 13 towns situated on flourishing hills over the volcanic lakes are known as the Castelli Romani. They are a 30-min drive southeast of Rome, a green refreshing refuge ever since early Roman times. Enjoy the unique landscape offered by this area full of natural parks and lakes. Thanks to its special position, this area was chosen by the ancient Romans to build stunning villas. During the Middle Age, noble families such as the Orsini and the Colonna chose the same setting to build their castles. Along the centuries some of them were destroyed, while others were transformed to host the Popes’ families. Stop in the little town of Ariccia - famous for the so-called “Fraschetta” restaurant, and look at the Chigi Palace designed by Bernini for Pope Alexander VII. Reach Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence, where you can visit The Palace and the gardens of Villa Barberini. In this area, you can enjoy a great locally produced wine and traditional Italian restaurants, from where you can admire spectacular views over the lakes. Generally, we start the tour at 8.00 am, with pick-up right at the quayside, so you will find us immediately as you get off the ship.
